Living in Mechanicsville

Neighbourhood Guide

mechanicsville homes for saleMechanicsville is an urban community located just to the west of centretown Ottawa.  Part of the Kitchissippi Ward, it is bordered on the north by the Ottawa River, the O-Train Trillium line on the east, Scott Street on the south, and Parkdale Avenue on the west.  Mechanicsville is often associated with Hintonburg, a neighbourhood located to its south.

Well-established, Mechanicsville is known for its cultural diversity yet longstanding population. The community is predominately residential, with wood frame and wood siding homes built in the early 1900s. In recent years, the new “look” of infilling with new homes, renovation of older homes and the development of condominiums has to become a favourite topic with residents. Revitalized streetscapes by the City of Ottawa, modern amenities, coupled with efficient modes of public transportation are helping to build Mechanicsville’s popularity with business investors and residents alike.

Mechanicsville is home to the landmark Protection of the Holy Virgin Memorial Church, which was built in 1988 to commemorate 1000 years of Christianity in Russia. The community will also become home to the popular Westfest, which relocates from Westboro Village to Laroche Park in summer 2016. This move is in an effort to bring new economic and cultural stimulation, coupled with free art and entertainment, to a vibrant and growing community.
